Kite Runner And Oedipus The King: Irony

The Kite Runner and Oedipus Rex are two completely different pieces of work written in two completely different time periods. Both pieces of work reveal ironic plots that shape the stories. The interesting part of both Kite Runner and Oedipus Rex is that the ironic situations turn to be the moments of anagnorisis. The moments of anagnorisis are mainly the internal conflicts in the stories and reveal the themes. The themes of both pieces of work are completely different and change the way you look at things after reading them. Both pieces of work have two main moments of anagnorisis that are ironic. Both stories are tragic. In The Kite Runner, there were very big instances of irony the influenced the plot. One main instance of irony is when Amir does not stop Hassan's rape …show more content…
Amir wants Baba's approval because he knows he isn't living up to his father's expectations after overhearing a conversation between Baba and Rahim. Baba thinks Amir is a coward for not sticking up for himself in front of the bullies. Baba just wants his son to turn out more like him. "After all, I had killed his beloved wife, his beautiful princess, hadn’t I? The least I could have done was to have had the decency to have turned out a little more like him. But I hadn’t turned out like him." (Hosseini 22) Amir just watched the rape so that he could get a kite to bring to his father to show him that he was a winner. For example when he said, "I was going to win, and I was going to run that last kite. Then I’d bring it home and show it to Baba. Show him once and for all that his son was worthy." (Hosseini 65)Another instance of irony in the Kite Runner is how as an adult he recognizes the irony in his own story. He recalls how as a child Rahim told Amir after reading his first story, "You have irony in your stories. It is something that
