I was not able to tell what period this piece was set directly in given that it is in fact a play with in a play, however, I was guessing around the late 1950’s given the costuming when they were not in show, they did however did have a portion of swing during Too darn hot which would lead me to believe it took place earlier. Cole Porter wrote the music to be played with a small orchestra, which the Kent State school of music did with ease. The variety of musical numbers was large as it is a well-produced musical. Too Darn Hot showed signs of swing music, Always True to You (In My Fashion) was very ballroom-esque with the choreography and the music was unique combination of swing and burlesque to a small degree.
Kiss Me, Kate was well cast and expertly performed, almost everyone cast was a triple threat and they had excellent execution of the steps in the musical, after having class with them I can see how they work differently in a show setting versus a class room setting, surprisingly enough.
