Kirk's Catering & Carryout Case

History of the Company Kirk’s Catering & Carryout is my dad, Kirk Hamilton’s, restaurant, located in Statesville, North Carolina. He has always worked in the food industry, and has always been passionate about food, so when the restaurant he was working at laid off a lot of people and moved him to a new location, he decided that that was the perfect time to open his own restaurant like he has always wanted. Kirk’s Catering & Carryout officially opened in May of 2012, but the business plan was formed in the summer of 2011. He found a good location, renovated the inside, because it was a racing-themed pizza place before this, and began working on the perfect menu. She ended up breaking a bone in her shoulder when she tried to catch herself so she decided to sue the restaurant for her medical bills. The owner had to go through the whole process of going to a deposition, where each person had to give their side of the story, and an arbitration, where they came to an agreement about being sued for $500,000 like she was originally trying to do. They ended up agreeing on $48,000, but it was a hassle for the owner since he runs both sides of the business, he was having to take time away from working to deal with this lawsuit. This was not very big news, though, so other than this incident, Kirk’s Catering & Carryout has a very good reputation in Statesville. A lot of people have recommended them, which is how the business has grown, most people do not even know it exists because it is tucked away right next to a Food Lion, so recommendations have really helped get their name out. Some reviews from customers on the Kirk’s Catering & Carryout website are, “WE WANT TO VERY SINCERELY THANK YOU FOR THE FANTASTIC JOB YOU DID CATERING OUR EVENT ON 2/29/2014. THE FOOD WAS PHENOMENAL! WE RECEIVED SO MANY COMPLIMENTS ON EVERYTHING. THE SERVICE WAS GREAT TOO & YOUR CREW WAS A PLEASURE TO WORK WITH!” (Hurley) and “The catering company was superb. Their presentation and quality of food was outstanding and my customer was amazed at all of the food. He had 11 guests and there was food leftover for people to take home! Everything was FIRST CLASS! Kirk's needs a big THANK YOU!” (Carter). This company is more of an innovational follower because catering was not invented at Kirk’s and nothing innovational has been added to catering, other than the restaurant making almost anything requested,
