After reading “An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge”, it does not seem that the author believes the answer to these questions are yes. In fact, Bierce conveys a harsh and vituperative attitude towards the military and war throughout the entire story.…

Toronto’s mayor John Tory and his council have been discussing the establishment of tolls on the Don Valley Parkway and the Gardiner Expressway. In order to get support from not only his council but the people of the city, John Tory is asking for help from those living in the 905 “to share the cost of upkeep and transit expansion with people living in the 416.” The mayor hopes that the new toll route will help to cut the amount of traffic/congestion on these highways and to further develop transit in these areas. Josh Colle, chair of the TTC stated that asking drivers to pay tolls is similar to TTC riders paying a “modest fee to use public transit.” However, those that are against it argue that putting a reasonable toll on these highways still won’t be enough to fund the city’s large projects.…

This Bridge Called My Back – Writings by Radical Women of Color is a collection of poems, essays, speeches, and various other documents written by women of color in order to explore their ideas and opinions on feminism, sexism, and racism. The authors put forth several ideas that are still relevant today, over thirty years after the book was originally published. One concept, created by Cherrie Moraga, is “theory in the flesh.” Moraga wanted to look at women’s real-life experiences, bring these women together to form a powerful group, and actively confront contradictions associated with women of color feminism. Bridge uses this concept by presenting women of color’s personal experiences, deep thoughts, and untouched feelings, even if they contradict…

In the story, “An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge”, Ambrose Bierce tells a story about a man named Peyton Farquhar and his tragic death. Personally I do feel some sympathy for Peyton for what happened but is was no one else’s fault but his own that he ended up hanging from a noose. I do not feel as bad because Peyton was warned about the soldiers and that any trespassers would be hung before attempting to approach the Owl Creek Bridge. I think he thought he was going to be able to get away with taking all or some of the driftwood located against the wooden pier against the end of the pier. Peyton ignores the warning and ends up exactly where the soldier told him he would, hung on a noose.…
