“He was quite doggedly avoiding me,” stated the benefactor.
When questioned, the financial planner said that he had no idea the budget had been neglected, but the queen didn’t believe him for a moment. Finally, after hours of questioning, he gave up lying. He told the queen that he presumed that the Kingdom of Dirawin could better use the funds to bolster their own kingdom, as he saw the Kingdom of Mered to be a lost cause.
“Why you smarmy, lying, impertinent, little milksop! How dare you give my money to another kingdom?” the queen snarled, full of rage.
When the financial planner was questioned further he said that he had also been feeding the Kingdom of Dirawin the lie that Mered had a spy and was preparing to attack them. He was the rat that had been the source of the kingdom’s tension and the queen would not stand for it. She called for him to be imprisoned for the rest of his life, and immediately wrote a letter to the king of Dirawin explaining the situation. It took some convincing, but he finally believed her, and the two kingdoms got along
