King Peggy Character Analysis

In the novel King Peggy by Peggielene Bartels and Eleanor Herman, the story is about a woman named Peggy, who worked at the embassy in Washington D.C. One day Peggy got a call to become king of her village, Otuam in Ghana. Peggy then told the ambassador about the news, and the ambassador told her that she would make a great ruler. The Ambassador was correct to say that Peggy would be a fine king. The reasons Peggy was a good king are that she was fair and responsible. One of the ways that Peggy was a good king is because she was fair to people who needed help sometimes. For example, Peggy’s nephew Ekow was a troubled person. When Ekow first arrived in Otuam, people told Peggy that he was addicted to drugs. Ekow needed a place to stay to sleep and eat. When Peggy was asked by Ekow if he could stay she had to take some time to make a decision. Then Peggy said yes that Ekow could stay, but if he started any trouble he would be kicked out. For example, when Peggy first arrived to Otuam as king, she was informed of the bad situations that Otuam went through, such as lack of a local hospital, and clean water. When Peggy learned about these problems, she had many ways of repairing the village, including helping the poor. The only problem was getting money to fix everything, so Peggy asked people in the village for donations. Once she received the donations she started taking care of her obligations. Her duties were to get clean water, provide education for children, and reconstruct the king’s palace. The way she reconstructed the palace was by putting her cousin Nana Kwesi in charge. Peggy gave Nana the money to start the job while she handled the other obligations. It wasn’t easy for Peggy but she was a reliable ruler. In these ways, Peggy was a lot of help to Otuam and her
