King Leopold In Cold Blood

Decent Essays
When I finished reading the few pages that were assigned. I was left in awe. It's crazy how so much can occur without anyone knowing what is really going on. King Leopold made people think he was doing great things and helping other when in reality all he was doing was helping himself and harming millions of people. I believe that he was able to accomplish these horrific things for so long without anyone knowing because no one really knows what's going on until they see it. So everyone would take his word that everything was going good in the congo and no one could tell him he was wrong because they had no sort of communication with people there. It wasn't like today where things can be broadcasted all over because of the internet and people speaking out. Everyone back then was okay with whatever was said to them and that isn't okay because they should have asked for proof. People trusted him and that is where he had the advantage of keeping all these secrets and ruining so many lives. It isn't okay that he got away with so …show more content…
I know that it sounds so closed minded but it really is all about color. If the people would have been white it would be broadcasted just as equal as the holocaust but it isn't. Some believe that just because slavery no longer exist people of color have won. But have we really? I am not black but I have black friends and am of color and it's just ridiculous to me that they don't get their part in history told as it should be and white people are still superior it's absurd and the world needs to realize that we are all the same and history is history it isn't going anywhere so why not just talk about what really went down. History needs to be told the way it happened and not just how people want to tell the story and I think this is where we need to start to try and make some

Adam Hochschild brings this largely untold story alive with the wit and skill of a Barbara Tuchman. Like her, he knows that history often provides a far richer cast of characters than any novelist could invent. Chief among them is Edmund Morel, a young British shipping agent who went on to lead the international crusade against Leopold. Another hero of this tale, the Irish patriot Roger Casement, ended his life on a London gallows. Two courageous black Americans, George Washington Williams and William Sheppard, risked much to bring evidence of the Congo atrocities to the outside world.…

Therefore it is time to take a different approach we need to open our mouths and let out voices be heard so that others are aware of our pain. It is hard to be on the outside looking in. However the more awareness this nation has of how black America is treated and is less privilege the closer we are to change. In my opinion I hate when I hear “Black Lives Matter” because “All Lives Matter.” However at this point we need to see that black America are the ones who needs to be brought to the surface because white America sees otherwise…

The Holocaust is a subject that is overlooked, misunderstood, and disregarded. Students do get taught about it in school, but it generally becomes a subject that people avoid discussing because they don’t want to offend someone. It soon became a subject that was too daunting and too terrifying to be thought of. People can’t even try to fathom the kind of evil it must take to degrade humans the way the Nazis did during the war, that they just stopped thinking about it all together. Some people even convinced themselves that the Holocaust never happened.…

Why should future generations know about the holocaust? The Holocaust was an unquestionable powerful event that all started with Hitler and the Nazis in Germany. Not only German Jews but all Jews were killed just because Hitler thought they didn’t match the characteristics of a natural born German Jew. This was such a tragic event that it should be widely known by all generations. People and children of younger generations should all be aware that this happened in order to stop future events such as the Holocaust to happen again.…

Throughout the civil rights movement, white people were thinking in a mindset that they were better people than African Americans based off of their skin color. White people shouldn’t have been worrying about what color skin, they have because at the end of the day both African American and white people share the same fate: “ For many of our white brothers, as evidenced by their presence here today, have come to realize that their destiny is tied up with our destiny. And they have come to realize that their freedom is inextricably bound to our freedom. We cannot walk alone.” (King, para 9-10).…

Racism has planted its roots into our society and Asian Americans face just as much discrimination as any other race. Racism towards Asians and Asian Americans happens so frequently that it has become acceptable and we Asians have built some sort of tolerance. We become unaware as we start believing it is normal to be treated poorly. Asians face racism a lot differently from other ethic groups. Although we rarely hear about Asians facing racism, it is living strong and in most cases they are left unpunished or ignored.…
