King Lear by Shakespeare and Candide by Voltaire Although King Lear by Shakespeare and Candide by Voltaire are very different on the outside they share internal values. King Lear is a play written by William Shakespeare, who was an English poet and playwright who was widely regards as the greatest writer in the English language and the world pre-eminent dramatist (Shakespear, 1998). Candide by Voltaire is a satire, Voltaire was born Francois-Marie Arouet, he use his satirizing style of writing to make fun of the Powerful Frenchmen of his time (voltaire, 1991). Cordelia wanted the people to know that she wasn’t a fortune-hunter but she didn’t have the gift of glib that her sister had but she only had love for the King. Cordelia finally act of love was shown to her father when she was exile from his kingdom. She went and married the King of France. Cordelia knew that her two sister were mistreating her Father the King badly (Shakespear, 1998). She persuade her husband, the King of France, to make war with her sisters and take back the land that her father King Lear gave to her sisters (Shakespear, 1998). Cordelia love for her father never wonder in spite of the treatment she received from her daddy the king. Candide love for Lady Cunegonde and Cordelia love for King Lear, her father ,is comparable in this way. Both characters shows a strong affection and warm attachment to the other person. They contrast in that Candide love for Lady Cunegonde is an attraction based on sexual desire that has been passing down from man to a woman since Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. Cordelia love for her father was contrasts in the beginning of the play by her opening statement I love my father like a daughter who should love their parent or child (Shakespear, 1998). The character Candide and the hardship he endured throughout his journey. Candide misfortune started with the simple kiss that he gave Lady Cunegonde (voltaire, 1991), she was the daughter of Baron Thunder-ten-Tronckh, he was the owner
