Shakespeare shows that death, marriage and relationships all revolve around love. Regardless of the differences between the book and the play both authors portray similar views on marriage and love, for example arranged marriages, unrequited love and advantageous marriages. One of the concepts Shakespeare explores in Much Ado About Nothing is that of the different natures of relationships. Throughout the play, Shakespeare sets up two distinct pairs of lovers, both exemplifying a different model of relationship. Shakespeare contrasts two ideals of relationships, one of which being a relationship of immediacy based on necessity and a need to fulfill social norms, and the other being a relationship that is based on genuine feelings of love that are cultivated slowly and thoughtfully over time. The conversation between Anthony, Leonato, Beatrice, and Hero in Act Two Scene One, regarding how Hero should respond to her impending proposal, contributes to this exploration of differing types of love by juxtaposing the nature of relationship that Anthony, Leonato, and Hero subscribe to with the differing ideal of relationship that Beatrice favors.…

In literature, Shakespeare is known for many of his notorious comedies such as The Comedy of Error, As You Like It, The Merchant of Venice, and much more. Much Ado About Nothing is supposedly a comedy: Beatrice and Benedick trade insults for professions of love, and Claudio and Hero fall in love, out of love, and back in love again. But the play contains many darker, more tragic elements than a typical comedy. The play, Much Ado About Nothing is tragic because of when Benedick challenged Claudio, Hero’s death and when Borrachio was sent to jail. The themes of the play are love, deceit, and reputation.…

In the Renaissance Era men were proud to be vigorous in their pursuit of women. Like in many of Shakespeare’s plays, men were supposed to be in search of love even if it led to sacrificing everything, even their own lives. Juxtaposing this one with many of Shakespeare’s other plays, like Romeo and Juliet, instead of the main character gracefully falling in love and thus he gives his full loyalty to his lover, Much Ado About Nothing flips the script by making Benedick an already fully loyal man who reluctantly found himself in love and by cause and effect his lover has his full loyalty. In William Shakespeare’s comedy Much Ado About Nothing he tells of the sacrifices of both moral and physical that Benedick had to go through to show the everlasting…

Shakespeare entitled his play Much Ado About Nothing because of how the play was based on misunderstandings that are not really important. The play was based on misconceptions because of how Benedict and Beatrice believe that they both loved each other. Because they both spied on their friends, they were tricked by them and they fell in love with each other in the end. This was not an important aspect of the play because it did not have a conflict or problem. Another wrong idea that happened in the play was when Claudio thought Hero was cheating on him so he publicly denounced her at their wedding. This shows how Claudio would give up his love in order to maintain his social appearance. He could have avoided this situation by trusting Hero…

The similarities between the two are obvious: in each, a father is deceived by a child; there is jealousy between siblings; a father disowns one of his children; a father is abandoned and left to fend for himself. King Lear is the only one of Shakespeare’s plays where the sub-plot merely repeats the theme of the main plot. I personally feel that the most obvious themes that the subplot reflected and reinforced were the themes of madness, filial ingratitude and…
