King James was the king of England and Scotland. James started his rule over Scotland when he was only 13 months old. He was born on June 19, 1566 and the only son of Queen Mary of Scotland. He ruled Scotland from July 24, 1567 to his death. His father’s death was the reason he was crowned so early. Though he was technically king, he wasn’t able to actually rule until he was old enough. So in reality, the priest was king until he took over. King James also ruled England from March 24, 1603 until his death. He was Queen Mary’s successor due to the fact that the queen didn’t produce children. James was the closest relative to her so he became king. These plots are the “Bye Plot” and the “Main Plot.” These plots were both organized by priests and made to take power from the king and to use that power for the church. The Bye Plot was organized for religious toleration. This meant they were trying to have it so all people believe the same thing that they do. In order to do this, they had to kidnap King James. They inevitably failed to do so and were punished. The Main Plot was a conspiracy to try to replace the King James with his cousin Arabella Stuart. He was a sickly man with many physical handicaps and a tongue too big for his own mouth. James’s health wasn’t very good either. He fell victim to arthritis, gout, and kidney stones. He was always drinking and he urinated blood at times. He even lost all of his teeth and was unable to sleep. He actually became delirious at certain times and this caused the people around him to worry quite a bit. The king was also severely depressed. The source of his depression came from the death of his son(1612) and his wife(1619). He was terminally ill and it was just getting worse as he kept living on. He eventually died on March 27,1625. He died in Herts, England at the age of 58. James was buried in the Westminster Abbey
