These plots are the “Bye Plot” and the “Main Plot.” These plots were both organized by priests and made to take power from the king and to use that power for the church. The Bye Plot was organized for religious toleration. This meant they were trying to have it so all people believe the same thing that they do. In order to do this, they had to kidnap King James. They inevitably failed to do so and were punished. The Main Plot was a conspiracy to try to replace the King James with his cousin Arabella Stuart. This plot was lead by and funded by Spanish churches and priests. This conspiracy also failed. Due to these plots, King James made the church sign the Oath of Allegiance. He was a sickly man with many physical handicaps and a tongue too big for his own mouth. James’s health wasn’t very good either. He fell victim to arthritis, gout, and kidney stones. He was always drinking and he urinated blood at times. He even lost all of his teeth and was unable to sleep. He actually became delirious at certain times and this caused the people around him to worry quite a bit. The king was also severely depressed. The source of his depression came from the death of his son(1612) and his wife(1619). He was terminally ill and it was just getting worse as he kept living on. He eventually died on March 27,1625. He died in Herts, England at the age of 58. James was buried in the Westminster Abbey
