King David, Utopia, And Speech Before The Spanish Armada Invasion

An effective leader is a person with a passion for a cause that is larger than they are. Someone with a dream and a vision that will better society, or at least, some portion of it. Psalm 23 by King David, Utopia by Thomas More, and the Speech before the Spanish Armada Invasion” by Queen Elizabeth I all have leadership characteristics that they have shown and shared. According to Psalm 23, Utopia, and the “Speech before the Spanish Armada Invasion” an effective leader should lead their people in the right direction, make their people the first priority, and protect their people from enemies and danger. In Psalm 23, it shows that an effective leader should lead his/her people in the right direction by showing them right from wrong. In order for the leader to show the people right from wrong a citizen may have to be punished for his/her wrongdoing to know what’s right. Psalm 23 states, “Thy rod and thy staff they comfort me” (King David 448). King David uses a shepherd and sheep to represent the leader and the people. The rod punishes the sheep when they have done wrong. The staff protects and guides the sheep. An effective leader should use the rod and staff as an example to punish the people when they have done wrong and protect/guide them. Queen Elizabeth didn’t stand in the background waiting to hear the results on if her people won or lost against the Spanish. In the “Speech before the Spanish Armada,” it states, “she was not going to sit trembling inside a guarded Palace while her people fought but was going to go to the coast of the battle and ‘live or die’ with them.” Queen Elizabeth is an effective leader because she would do everything in her power to protect her people. Her people respected and trusted her because she believed and protected
