The diet of this carnivorous cobra usually includes many things such as eggs, chickens, small mammals, toads, lizards, mongooses, and rat snakes for dinner. After a meal, it will lay in the sun to speed up the digestion process, they are most vulnerable in this state. During Winter months when food is scarce, the cobra can live off of fat tissue for elongated periods of time. They will continue to use this fat tissue until food supply can restock once more. Until then they will resort to eating small lizards or frogs.

This organ aids in the department of smell, giving the cobra a keen sense of smell for its surroundings. Paired with the smell, is exceptional sight. The cobra can see up to three hundred feet! The cobra will use these extraordinary senses to look for prey and predators. If provoked continuously, the cobra will begin to strike. It will usually cowl, an act of which the cobra will spread its ribs, form a flat section near its head, emit an ear piercing hiss. The hiss and the cowl will generally frighten the predator. Sometimes, if the predator is persistent, the cobra will spit its venom. The cobra’s venom is extremely lethal to its predators. The cobra will strike and wait for the venom to kill its victim.
