After the Green Knight appears in the court of King Arthur, the Green Knight presents a challenge that he wants one of the legendary Knights to take. After nobody accepts the challenge, The Green Knight begins to make fun of everyone. He begins to tell King Arthur to take his challenge. Sir Gawain, who is the nephew of King Arthur says he will accept the challenge so the King does not have to. He believes the King of the court should not have to go through this challenge. Therefore he accepts the challenge himself.
