Nine months later, she gives birth to their son, Mordred. What makes this moment most tragic is that a simple, unwitting mistake by Arthur tears him and his dreams apart many years later. This is considered to be an extremely pivotal point in Arthur’s life because his affair with Morgause is the first step in the reign’s collapse. Arthur’s allusion represents the overall battle of good versus evil and the fight for equality. King Arthur and Arthur Jarvis were well liked, and respected by the people. Paton states “the church had been too small for all who wanted to come” (181), and this is the ultimate representation of the respect that Arthur receives.
