King Arthur: The Legendary King

King Arthur, also spelt Aurthur in other cultural texts, is the mythical king of England who is made king by many supernatural events in order for him to unite all of the people to be one nation. He is given many gifts, those gifts could include Excalibur the sword of Kings, Guinevere the Queen he sought, and the most loyal and true knights. Arthur was an iconic figure to all Englishmen who wished to be king. His story was one that would be revised for centuries and used as a basis for every fairy tale created afterward, mimicking the king of legend and all the supernatural happenings. Many movies were inspired by this story, and therefor keep Arthur alive in our culture today while we evolve farther away from elder traditions. Arthur is a …show more content…
The battle is bloody and many knights fall. Arthur s instructed by the ghost of Sir Gawain to not fight until banished Launcelot returns. Due to a false signal the battle starts before Launcelot gets the notification. Both Mordred and Arthur die, but what is strange is that a ghost told him not to. Wouldn’t that be enough of a warning? One would think so. Arthur lays dying and calls Sir Bedevere to take his sword and throw it back into the lake. Three times he lies and three times Arthur makes him do it again, until the lady of the lake reaches up and grabs the sword as it flies through the air over the lake. Then Arthur instructs his knights to help him into a barge, where the ladies of Avalon await to take him to his grave, which is at a cathedral that is land bound, but low and behold there is a tomb for him waiting and freshly made. All in all I would say Arthur is pretty interesting. He was taken away at death by ghost women, he was made king by a magical sword, and born by magic. How much more interesting can you get? He ruled the land fair and wise for all his years until he met his bitter defeat. He will always stand as an icon to the British and English people as the right and true king, some still believe that he will come back and rule England when it needs to be

Arthur was arguably the most legendary king of them all, with many legends with his name in them. Many Arthurian legends have things in common. " Merlin and the Dragons" (Story 1) and "Sir Gawain and the Loathly Lady" (Story 2) have a lot of things in common. Despite having some striking differences, “Merlin and the Dragons” and “Sir Gawain and the Loathly Lady” are amazingly similar in many ways, and justify a lengthy examination. Plenty of our favorite classic tales are set in a mystical world where a noble character is tangled in conflict. Red riding hood gives us the quest of traveling across the forest while being wary of a talking wolf. However monotonous or maybe cliche, medieval romance literature does its best job at staying on point and keeping the reader engaged in the story. In Sir Gawain and The Green Knight, the author used the magical Green Knight in order to push Sir Gawain into the quest that will prove if his allegiance to the code of chivalry is over the value of his life.…

I think Arthur is heroic not only because he is brave and courageous but also because he strives to live up to the code of honor he sets for his knights. He really tries to follow his code even when it is not of benefit to him. For example, he give Mordred a place at court because his code of honor requires him to do so even when he know that Mordred is dangerous. He does not want to acknowledge Launcelot and Guenever because it would break the code by bringing a lady to dishonor and would not be in the best interest of the kingdom. Even after he is at war with Launcelot, he is willing to meet with him honorably.…

In literature the theme of “otherness” is considered to be something bad. The reason for such a belief is because “otherness” represents a character whose personal qualities go against the standards of society. In The tale of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight and in Marie de France’s lai Lanval, the Green Knight and the Fairy Queen are two characters whose appearance, isolation, and values act in accordance with “otherness”. While the characters are the epitome of “otherness”, how they represent the theme conflicts with the ideas of what an “other” character is with what it is supposed to be.…

King Arthur is also not depicted as being a powerful and strong king. One example that shows this is in the very opening of the movie when it seems as though he is about to ride in on a horse, when he appears from over a mountain skipping towards the camera as the man who is with him bangs coconuts together to make the sounds of a horse trotting. This shows the lack of authority and royalty that King Arthur possesses in this movie. Looking again at the scene of Galahad and the women of Anthrax, the film also uses this scene to mock tradition. Sir Galahad, in history, is known for being a knight of purity.…

    Pop Fisher In The Natural

In “The Natural,” the character Pop Fisher is the coach and thus “king” of the “knights,” the ball team that the main character of the book joins and plays on. Furthermore, throughout the book he is mentioned to have a sort of athlete’s foot on his hands and that the Knight’s field also seems similar to a wasteland that would correspond with Pop’s hands’ condition, very similar to the “Tale of the Fisher King.” Other than his condition and relevance to the tale mentioned before, he is also known to be quick to judge, as he benches Roy for his first few games of being on the team, thinking of him as old and most likely not a good player. Moreover, Pop is also known to be bitter and sad because when he was a player himself he had made his team lose because of a “bad” ball. King Arthur is a well-known king from the well-known tale of “The Sword in the Stone,” but the variation depicted in “Once Upon a Time” is not that.…
