King Arthur Ector Journal Entry

It was a hazy morning; the street was cluttered with people of all ages, who were flooding in to the church. In the surging hoards among them stood Sir Ector, an elderly knight, with his two sons, Sir Kay, a young stern knight and Arthur his young squire. After everyone was seated in the creaky pews, the pastor started preaching his lengthy sermon.

Because the kingdom had no king, many of its citizens were saddened. Since the king had children, there was no heir to take the throne. Suddenly, outside one of the church windows Arthur spotted a beam of shimmering light coming from the sky, and landed with a loud boom! Everyone rushed outside, to find a sword in a stone with a letter saying, “ Whosoever pulleth the sword out of this stone, is right wise born king of England”. Every knight in the land tried, and failed to yank the sword out of the stone.

Immediately, he got on his horse to retrieve his sword, on the way there he thought to himself the inn is much to far away, I will just take the one in this stone. So he grabbed it and pulled out with ease, and headed back to the arena. As he gave the sword to Kay “ this is not my sword” he roared, “ This is the sword from the stone,” he gasped. Since the people thought it was not real, a large group followed them to the stone it was gone. “ Put it back in and pull it back out” Kay ordered, which he did with ease. Everyone bowed; England had found its new

In “The Natural,” the character Pop Fisher is the coach and thus “king” of the “knights,” the ball team that the main character of the book joins and plays on. Furthermore, throughout the book he is mentioned to have a sort of athlete’s foot on his hands and that the Knight’s field also seems similar to a wasteland that would correspond with Pop’s hands’ condition, very similar to the “Tale of the Fisher King.” Other than his condition and relevance to the tale mentioned before, he is also known to be quick to judge, as he benches Roy for his first few games of being on the team, thinking of him as old and most likely not a good player. Moreover, Pop is also known to be bitter and sad because when he was a player himself he had made his team lose because of a “bad” ball. King Arthur is a well-known king from the well-known tale of “The Sword in the Stone,” but the variation depicted in “Once Upon a Time” is not that.…
