As the passion grew and Valley Nursery Inc. was formally established Arthur knew he needed help. In seeking partners he found the help he required in Elliot Stuart and his son Basil. After two struggling years Elliot was in need of fulltime employment and was hired by Hill Field Air Force Base and Arthur bought his interest out. In 1955 Arthur decided he would like to retire and decided to sell the Nursery. Basil shorty after agreed to purchase the nursery from his father. Having no money to do so and being recently married the year before and living on a wage of $1 an hour, Arthur agreed on the condition that Basil would have a business partner. Basil asked Ted Combe his close cousin to become his new partner. They bought Valley Nursery Inc. in the spring of 1955.
