Sadly someone noticed and told Edwin about Arthur’s illegal activity. Arthur went home to find his house ransacked and Edwin waiting for him. Arthur confessed what he had done and begged for forgiveness. Edwin was a harsh serf, but he wanted to show some compassion to the peasants, so he had them gather in the middle of the manor. He then went on to tell them what Arthur had done and that he confessed to his crime. He had been gone for a couple of days and his wife got worried so she decided to against her husband and tell Edwin about him leaving. Everyone in the manor thought that he was bedridden, but when Edwin found out that he had left he sent out a search party for him. Edwin thought to himself that he couldn’t allow anyone to leave without consequences because if he did he would be thought of as a weak ruler. After two days of searching, they found him inside of a cave and brought him back to the manor. Edwin punished Arthur in front of the whole manor.
