“I want to leave.” , said Arthur. “ We can not, we are bound to this land by oath.” , said Helena. The land Arthur and Helena worked on was owned by a serf named Edwin and his family for 50 years. The landscape was lush and filled with crops ripe for the harvest to come. Arthur did not like living under Edwin's rule because he was cruel to the peasants that worked on his land. Arthur had heard of a beautiful land that was only a day's walk, but his wife said it was a lie and that he should never trust a traveler.
Arthur was tired of working so hard and not receiving fair compensation. He dreamed of a life where he did not have to work and he could feast every night with his wife, Helena, and his children, Melvin and Henry beside him. Everyone

He killed it and took it home knowing the consequences of poaching in the manor. He cleaned and cooked the boar behind a large group of trees. Sadly someone noticed and told Edwin about Arthur’s illegal activity. Arthur went home to find his house ransacked and Edwin waiting for him. Arthur confessed what he had done and begged for forgiveness. Edwin was a harsh serf, but he wanted to show some compassion to the peasants, so he had them gather in the middle of the manor. He then went on to tell them what Arthur had done and that he confessed to his crime. Showing compassion he did not harm Arthur, Helena, or the kids, but he said that they would have to pay for the crime with 4 chickens and 25 pounds of …show more content…
He had been gone for a couple of days and his wife got worried so she decided to against her husband and tell Edwin about him leaving. Everyone in the manor thought that he was bedridden, but when Edwin found out that he had left he sent out a search party for him. Edwin thought to himself that he couldn’t allow anyone to leave without consequences because if he did he would be thought of as a weak ruler. After two days of searching, they found him inside of a cave and brought him back to the manor. Edwin punished Arthur in front of the whole manor. Sadly Arthur never got to see his wife and kids after that day. Edwin eventually sold his land to a nicer serf that was praised by all the peasants living in the
