King Arthur: A Classical Hero

Decent Essays
King Arthur is a great example of a classical hero because of how brave he is. He also follows a strict code of honor that he also sets up for his knights and subjects. He will always try to follow it even when it is detrimental to him. Like when he gave Mordred a place in his court because his honer required him to do so even when he knew that Mordred would become a dangerous adversary. He also chooses to turn a blind eye on Guenever's affair with Sir Lancelot because in that time, it would break the code to bring public shame and dishonor to a woman. Even after he has declared war on Lancelot, he still desires to duel with him in a honorable battle. Finally in the end, it isn't Lancelot and Guenever that destroy him, but his own son that

I think Arthur is heroic not only because he is brave and courageous but also because he strives to live up to the code of honor he sets for his knights. He really tries to follow his code even when it is not of benefit to him. For example, he give Mordred a place at court because his code of honor requires him to do so even when he know that Mordred is dangerous. He does not want to acknowledge Launcelot and Guenever because it would break the code by bringing a lady to dishonor and would not be in the best interest of the kingdom. Even after he is at war with Launcelot, he is willing to meet with him honorably.…
