Kinesthetic Techniques In Tim Burton's Films

Tim Burton is an renown director, producer, artist, writer , and animator. He thus uses stylistic techniques such as music, lighting, and editing to achieve mood, tone, and imagery effects that makes his films exhilarating with every next scene that comes afterwards.
By incorporating music into his films, he is able to change the mood from one scene to another with a different emotion. One example of Burton using music to change the mood is the scene of Edwards house in the beginning of the movie with Peg and Edward. He uses music and sound effects to change the setting of a cheery and happy neighborhood to the dark and gloomy castle on the top of the hill. Also, in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, there was the scene in the beginning of the movie showing Charlie Bucket’s house. By using a mix of orchestra and Christmas theme genre Burton achieves a cheery though gloomy feeling while watching the movie. Finally, during Big Fish, there were Dad’s past as a high school student. In Edward Scissorhands, there is a scene that introduces the castle as a dark, mysterious,eerie place. Burton incorporates lightning to emphasize that the castle is dark and scary while leaving the mysterious factor as if anyone still lives there. Plus, in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, there is the scene where Willy Wonka takes the kids and parents into the chocolate room. The way of using shadows and spotlights to show how massive the room area was makes the sight breath taking.
