I never imagined myself joining a sorority when I was growing up, but after staying with Chi Omega as a prospective student, I changed my mind. College was totally new territory for me, and I had no support system at William Woods. I was searching for a sisterhood, group of friends, and something to push me to better myself daily. I found all of that and more upon joining Chi Omega. The other houses had their strong points and some great girls, however none of them compared to what Chi Omega offered to me.…

This is the summer that my family could only afford to feed me and my brother really cheap foods such as hot dogs, mac and cheese, ramen noodles, etcetera. My father worked nights at Donaldson's and then came home and slept just to have to go back to work being on call for Northeast Iowa Motors and their towing trucks. My dad worked long days and long night just to provide food and a house for me, my brother, and my mom. Even with all of that working he still managed to be an amazing father to us. Things started to get a bit easier when everyone in the family got some job in some way or another, but even then my parents sometimes still have financial troubles.…

One reason this scholarship award is important to my family and I is because of the price. To some people $1,500 may not seem like that much money, but I look at it is $1,500 less that I will have to pay. I am a triplet, which means that all three of us will be going to college next fall. Although my parents do not seem too concerned about the upcoming price tag of college, I know that I want to do as much as possible to lower the price. Whether it is working or filling out scholarships, I want to earn as much as I can now instead of procrastinating.…

Many people would say, “A $3,000 scholarship isn’t that much.” However, my mind set is the complete opposite of many people. If I was fortunate enough to obtain a $3,000 scholarship, or any amount of educational funding, I would be exhilarated. I want to become a nurse anesthetist, which isn’t going to be an inexpensive career choice throughout college. Any amount of funding that I am lucky enough to receive would change my life for the better, and make stressful times on my parents much simpler.…

In elementary school we are all asked the age old question,” What do you want to be when you grow up?”. And of course everyone throws out those answers like a teacher, doctor, police officer, dentist, or maybe even astronaut. If you were to look back at my old response you would see the response of a math teacher. In reality I did not know at this age what I wanted to be at all, but I knew it would be something with numbers and why not just throw teaching on there because it sounded good. Of course the teaching part changed, but the numbers and math part never did.…

When I first started my college search I was only looking at small Pennsylvania schools, just like most of my peers. I was settling for less than I really wanted because I believed it was all my mother could afford for me and I didn't want to step out of my comfort zone and try to go out of state, I was doing myself a great disservice. College was a big deal since my mom and dad both could not attend and my family always thought I would be the one who could do it. The University Of Arizona was actually my moms idea at first, she wanted me to get away from everything that kept people here in Philadelphia poor and miserable.…
