This is a between subjects experiment because the participants were different in each condition. For the procedure in each experiment, there were three phases. The experiment began with the study phase. The study phase started by the children being told that they are going to be told something about a boy/girl or about boys/girls. But in the second experiment they would say a cat/dog or cats/dogs or in the third they would say the eight different animals. Followed by that introduction, the experimenter would then say the eight facts. In the Kind condition, they used the pronoun they and in the individual condition they used the pronoun he/she. They made the children repeat each fact after it was told to them to make sure they were paying attention. When each fact was presented to them, there was a related picture shown along with it. The next phase was the distractor phase which was where they would go and color for 4 minutes. After that task, the recall phase began. The pictures seen with each fact during the study phase were shown to the children one at a time in the same order as before. After each picture, they were asked to remember the fact that they were told …show more content…
The results from these two experiments were extremely similar. For experiment one, the mean recall of information in the kind condition was .71 while the mean recall of information in the individual condition was .52. Then in experiment two, the mean recall of information for the kind condition was .72 while the mean recall of information in the Individual condition was .61. This data supports the hypothesis the researchers had stated. The children who were in the kind condition accurately recalled significantly more than children in the individual
