Kindergarten Teacher Interview Essay

For this task I decided to interview Mrs. Harris who is a kindergarten teacher at Graettinger-Terril Community School District. I chose to interview Mrs. Harris because I’ve always had an interest in becoming a kindergarten teacher and wanted to learn a little bit more about her responsibilities within and beyond the classroom. Throughout the interview, we discussed the various roles of the kindergarten teacher, the pleasures and challenges that come with the profession, as well as the distinct educational practices and beliefs that Mrs. Harris has upheld throughout her extensive career. The first part of our conversation was primarily concerned with the various roles of kindergarten teachers. Kindergarten teachers play a vital role in the development of young children. What children learn, specifically during the first experiences in elementary school where the groundwork is laid, can impact how they perceive themselves, the world around them, and can also affect their ability to succeed. Mrs. Harris told me that the most rewarding part of her career has been turning potential into success. She stressed that the guidance and support of a positive teacher can make all the difference for a student’s ability to succeed. I learned that the teacher ultimately sets the bar. It’s important to set high expectations for your students because a failure to do so would be depriving them of the quality education that they deserve.
