Global market capitalism strikes the root of the poor people’s anxious lives who suffer from worldwide economic slump, non-regular workforce, and the rat race. Annawadi is a slum of Mumbai in India and is surrounded by the airport and five splendid hotels. It is hard for Annawadians to get jobs in the big city so they dig up waste and sell recyclable trash for living. The documentary titled “Pleasure Unwoven: A Personal Journey About Addiction” was an interesting look at the theories behind addiction that classify addiction as a disease and the previous theories that discredited addiction as a disease. One part of the documentary that I learned the most from was the part that discussed the “choice argument” for addiction. Another part of the documentary that I learned a lot from was their discussion of the biological aspect of addiction and addictions effect on a human’s midbrain. Overall, I found this documentary very informative and can see myself utilizing the information I learned in my future career path.…

    Ithaka Analysis

Ithaka begins by striking the reader with a “voyage” to a destination called “Ithaka.” The author proclaims that he hopes the “voyage is a long one,” which doesn’t appear to make much sense if we are trying to reach “Ithaka,” because surely the distention is superior to the place where the “voyage” started. Through this, the author distinguishes that “Ithaca” the “island” is not intended, but rather what is intended is “Ithaka” the spirit. In our voyage, we shall not be afraid of encountering “Laistrygonians, Cyclops” or “angry Poseidon… as long as” we keep our “thoughts raised high.” Now, these creatures are by no mean the only ones we would encounter if we physically “set out for Ithaka,” but if we “set out” for a spiritual journey “Laistrygonians,…

The title of Primo Levi’s memoir if This is a Man has the sense that it is an unfinished statement. I have always envisaged it to be ‘if this is a man, then I don’t know what isn’t’ as a statement to question what defines a man. In his memoir, Levi explores this idea of what it means to be a man. He achieves this by using variation in tense to initiate the breakdown on humanity and through the selection of individuals he writes about who epitomize what it means to be a man, and what it means to not be a man.…

Process Description of Heijunka Introduction Heijunka is a tool used in lean manufacturing which focuses on eliminating waste without losing productivity through a manufacturing technique that relies on leveling production. Popularized by Toyota, lean manufacturing is often seen as an alternative and more effective manufacturing process than mass production that is commonly used in America (Friddle n.d.). Whereas mass production relies on production in large batches to obtain the lowest cost per part possible, lean production instead focuses on the flow of production, adjusting flow as demand changes. One of the primary problems heijunka serves to solve: how do you produce the correct amount of product when demand is always changing?…

Building on the theme of the preceding verse pertaining to prem pīḍā (pangs of love) and lāy (intense desire), this verse contends that a love-stricken heart is indeed the temple of prem bhakti or loving devotion for the Lord.
