Chapter three of “Being Peace” relates to chapter seven of “Search Inside Yourself” in that both discussed our happiness and how it affect others, the different perceptions we have, and the empathy we have for one another. Our brains are designed with people in mind, so feeling the emotions of another person is how we are one with ourselves and how we connect with others. In chapter seven of “Search Inside Yourself”, kindness is described as a sustainable source of happiness per the practice conducted on Just Like Me/Loving Kindness. Those who perceive themselves to be kind, are often calmer and happier towards other people, which makes the person on the other end happy as well. Kindness comes straight from the heart and is a trait that people have a hard time showing because they confuse it with showing their “weak” or “soft” side. Kindness is the building block to relationships with teachers, teammates and other peers and adults. During my first trip to must ministries kindness shined through my heart. Packing food boxes and sorting donation piles brought a smile to my face. In the middle of packing one of the 112 care packages full of food I realized how many individuals I have impacted due to my simple act of kindness.…

From the earliest philosophies of recorded history, the ethical discipline has studied five fundamental perspectives, or ethical decision-making approaches: Virtue Ethics, Deontological Ethics (duty based), Consequential Ethics, Dialogical Ethics, and the Ethic of Care. Each has a distinctive framework of raising questions of value, but some approaches have overlapping elements, such as the principle of rationality or human relationship. The following compare and contrast two particular ethical approaches: Duty Ethics and Consequential Ethics. Immanuel Kant was the founding deontological (duty-based) ethical theorist. Deontological means the study of duty, and Kant believed in following the same action in any situation, based on rational thought.…

One of the central teachings in the Catholic faith is the importance of service to others. “Just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve (Matthew 20:28, New International Version), His followers are called upon to show love for Him through service to others. Such an understanding of my calling as a follower of Christ has influenced my moral development and prompted me to show kindness and compassion towards others. As a moral value, “compassion combines an attitude of active regard for another’s welfare with an imaginative awareness and emotional response of sympathy, tenderness, and discomfort at another’s misfortune or suffering” (Beauchamp & Childress, 2013, p.37). The Biblical story of the good Samaritan – one of my…

I believe in speaking kind words, its simple really, if you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all. I believe words can hurt or heal, encourage or discourage and inspire or hinder. There are certain times in our lives where words may affect us more than other times. I believe in speaking kindly to the person at the grocery store ringing up my groceries or to the stranger I pass in the street because I just may be the only person to say anything nice to them that day or maybe the only person to say anything to them at all it makes me feel good to know that I may make their day just by saying something nice.…
