A problem with learning in places of education is that the lessons are usually taught in a certain style and this will normally cause learners of different learning styles to become bored and they will be less likely to take in what it is being taught.

For example, if you’re an auditory learner you’d most likely benefit from stories and rhymes. While this is true for the auditory learner, a visual learner would much prefer pictures, graphs, video and other things they can see.
Knowing your learning styles allows you to be more productive as you will be able to learn new skills better and increase your knowledge as you will be able to change your learning to more suit you. For example, my learning style is multimodal, but mainly visual, aural and kinaesthetic.
Because I am aware of my learning style, I am able to change my way of learning to accommodate my learning styles by listening to music whilst working, taking part in groups and adding pictures, graphs, maps, etc. to my learning. I could also use flash cards to improve my learning. I also know that making notes and lists do not help me as much as other forms of learning.
Knowing other people’s learning styles allows you to know how best they learn and therefore to change how you teach them for the better. For example, if you’re teaching somebody who is mainly visual, discussing the topic wouldn’t be the most effective way of teaching them.
