Kim Kong Un Aggression

A high-level defector from North Korea warned in an interview that Kim Jong Un would use nuclear weapons against the U.S. or its allies to stay in power if necessary (Zorthian, 2017). NBC News was told that the dictator of North Korea was “desperate in maintaining his rule” (Zorthian, 2017). Kim is readily watching for any military action or threat from America and he has made it known that he has nuclear weapons. These weapons are specifically intercontinental ballistic missiles (Zorthian, 2017). This was made known by Thae Yong Ho who was deputy ambassador to the United Kingdom when he defected in 2016 (Zorthian, 2017). Kim is not shy in testing his nuclear power and President Donald Trump has said that he will discuss North Korea’s nuclear …show more content…
He is a horrible, horrible dictator who obviously does not care for anyone else but himself. There are two type of aggression; hostile and instrumental. Kim Jong Un by far shows hostile aggression but I would not doubt if he uses both forms of aggression to get his way. He must have feelings of anger and want to harm others because that is just the type of person he is. According to Leonard Berkowitz he argues that any unpleasant stimulus triggers a fight-or-flight response of anger (Gilovich et al., 2016). Now since Kim Jong Un is most likely angry, he may be blowing things out of proportion and he may dare I say be a little bit paranoid. One way that Berkowitz tested his theory is perfect for this. He examined how anger and the presence of weapons combine to make people more aggressive (Gilovich et al., …show more content…
It was stated that he tested some of these missiles and he most likely had to be aggressive in some way. I do not think you would just shoot off some missiles if you were happy that day. Berkowitz tested this by having confederates shock participants after working on a problem. In the neutral condition the confederate did not shock the participants nearly as much as the ones who were angry did. There was also a gun next to the shock machine in some conditions. It was not the gun that necessarily made them want to shock them but it was rather if they were angered with the confederate. So if Kim Jong Un is angered with us and he is near those missiles, you better believe he is going to fire them. There is most likely an air of physical aggression that Kim Jong Un has because he is a man. This is all due to evolution and when males would have to compete with other males so he probably has to show that he is tougher in a way. Misperception also plays a role in aggression. Kim Jong Un may perceive that we want to strike North Korea when in fact that may not be the case. If he thinks that we want to strike them and we think that he wants to strike us then things can escalate rather quickly. He may also see himself as the good guy and us as the bad guy thus thinking he is causing no harm or evil. One way to get rid of misperceptions is to just communicate. Now I know that this is easier said than done

NK’s history of employing missiles, cyber-attacks, criminal activity, SOF and conventional forces proves them as the greatest hybrid threat to the US Military forces. A preemptive strike would be the last option if US were to engage in a war with NK according to strategists. However, the US must not be naive of NK’s capability and willingness to employ its advanced weapon systems and technologies. Reporting indicates that such weapons are dedicated to defeating the US’s precision strike and engagement capabilities. Furthermore, NK reports that they will undoubtedly employ its nuclear weapon systems if they believe its country or the Kim regime were ever at stake.…

In his article for the Associated Press, Eric Talmadge focuses on an educated analysis regarding the goals and desires of the North Korean regime by underlining their need to stay in power and obtain the respect of the world leaders. It’s Talmadge’s view that North Korea will never willingly abandon their goal of nuclear weapons because the ruling cadre sees it as the only path to survival and recognition. The premise is that North Korea is willing to risk the ire of their lone ally, China, the anger of the United Nations, and the very lives of their population in order to maintain their control over the country. Using the recent detonation of a nuclear device, Talmadge outlines how North Korea is demonstrating their abilities to the world…

Despite Kim's propaganda, North Korea made itself universally acknowledged as a deeply restrained and confining state. The founder’s brutality relating to the his past reflect the ideas now practiced in North Korea’s totalitarian government. Spreading across three generations, the current communist party of North Korea has had the power to keep their objectives alive. In an essay written by Will Hopkins, he states that Kim started off his regime by eliminating any political opposition and portraying himself "as an embodiment of what he called a 'true Korean'. He did so by dictating the media and by releasing propaganda to his nation."…

He is overly controlling and forces his subjects to love him - or else. According to Niccolò Machiavelli, author of The Prince, a piece of literature used to describe the errors of politics, Kim Jong Un is an effective ruler. The North Korean ruler follows the quotes “Before all else be armed” and “It is better to be feared than loved, if you can not be both.”. Kim Jong Un closely adheres to the ideals set forth by Machiavelli as evidenced by his use of brutal, barbaric tactics, as well as his development of North Korea as a nuclear power.…

Tim Urban, an American, says “I was only in North Korea for five days, but that was more than enough to make it clear that North Korea is every bit as weird as I always thought it was,” then briefly describes the country as “If you merged the Soviet Union under Stalin with an ancient Chinese Empire, mixed in The Truman Show and then made the whole thing Holocaust-esque, you have modern day North Korea.” Articles such as these show the dark, strange and dangerous North Korea the audience has come to know. Moreover, according to a survey done by Pew Research Center in spring of 2017, 78% of all the Americans have a “very unfavorable opinion” about North Korea. Also in another survey from January, North Korea is topping ISIS and cyberattacks in terms of threat to the American citizens. 10, 2005, North Korea announced that it possessed weapons of mass destruction or nuclear weapons. Earlier that month, scientists discovered that North Korea had provided Libya with uranium in order for them to create their nuclear weapons program which is now abandoned. This raised new concerns about Pyongyang 's role in the trade in nuclear technology and raw materials. Countries felt that North Korea could try and solve their problems economically by trying to sell their knowledge of nuclear weapons and nuclear technology. In May the United States deployed F-117 stealth fighter planes to South Korea.…

Satyagraha means truth and insistence, both words could be said to have been part of Archbishop Romero’s strategy to stop the violence happening in El Salvador. Romero was a man who was only trying to speak the truth and insist in nonviolent, mostly non-confrontational ways that the use of violence in this conflict could be stopped. The film Romero, has several instances where this belief could be clearly shown. The first instance where Satyagraha as a nonviolent reaction is clearly seen is after Romero’s friend Father Rutilio Grande is killed by guerilla forces.…
