There are often people who have great personalities and are loved for that reason. Atticus
Finch is one of this person in the fictional novel To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. To Kill a Mockingbird is a novel that revolves mostly in Scout and her family, but it also revolves in the problems the Finch family had to resolve throughout the novel caused by cruel persons. Scout develops throughout the novel with the help of her father Atticus Finch. Atticus is a lawyer who defends different type of people. Atticus possesses many qualities such as intelligence, tolerance, and courage.
One characteristic Atticus possesses is intelligence. Atticus demonstrates intelligence when he knew Scout was hearing Uncle Jack’s and his conversation. He let Scout listen to their conversation because he wanted Scout to get a better understanding on the situation. Another example is when Atticus was defending Tom Robinson. When Mayella Ewell witnesses were explaining where and how she was hurt, Atticus began questioning how was it possible that Tom had beat her up. Tom Robinson had one good arm, which made Atticus assume it wasn 't him who hurt Mayella. Atticus also demonstrates intelligence when he was trying to figure out how to help Jem after assuming Jem killed Bob Ewell. Atticus tells the reader Jem won 't face any charges by saying “Of course it was, clear-cut self defense..” (Lee 365). Atticus assumed Jem didn 't really meant harm but had to defend himself and Scout.
