“To kill a mockingbirds” is something Atticus tells Jem when he gives them an air pump gun, he says “shoot all the birds you want but remember it is still illegal to kill a mockingbird “. When Jem asked him why, he said “because the mockingbird does not hurt anyone or mess anything up all they do sing you fantastic songs.” There is a deeper meaning to this, to his mean that since mockingbirds are peacefully and do nothing that if you kill one it would be like killing a minority an injured or specially challenged person for no reason for when they did nothing wrong to you. Scout is a young girl who just wants to do what’s right and most of the time he thinks she is doing that but in a town like Macomb which is an unfair city she is told that she is doing the wrong thing. Throughout the book she has trouble with the truth because she is told one thing but then her father say’s another thing the rest of the city doesn’t agree on she doesn’t know what to believe.
