To start the meeting, the mayor received and award. The council then began to discuss items of community interest (upcoming events) such as the Easter weekend activities held in downtown Kilgore. Next, the council allowed for presentations by Assistant Chief of Police, Roman Robertson, City Manager, Josh Selleck, and Assistant Fire Chief, Mike Simmons. Upon completion, you receive a certificate and you will also be allowed to do a ride along with any officer. Mr. Selleck recognized Police Chief Todd Hunter for his 5 years of service with the Kilgore Police Department. Next, Mr. Simmons presented a presentation about the importance of smoke alarms. He showed us a video of a modern room vs a legacy room. The demonstration showed how the modern room burned more rapidly than the legacy room due to the material change of the past several years. Next on the agenda, was the public hearing to which no one had anything to say. Shortly following, Discussion and possible action was up. In other words, the approval or denial for the city to fund different actions. First up was the consideration to approve funds for the concrete materials related to the Texas Community Development project on West North and West Sabine Street. Item was approved. Second item needing approval was for the personal protection equipment for the Kilgore Fire Department. The grant they received from FEMA was for $158,364.00 and with 10% being matched from the City of Kilgore in the amount of $15,836.00, with the final bid being for $174,208.00.
