The biggest known reasons for homework is false. Homework only improves grades on tests or quizes in the last 3 years of school 10,11,12. Also the argument that it educates responsibility is a false argument, if a student is struggling with a subject or a part of class, they should go discuss to the teacher and inquire for special help if they need it. It is not their responsibility for being forced into practicing things they are bad at to get better, if you want true improvement go after it yourself not expect others to do it for you. Also, studies show that only 5% of students actually get enough sleep because of over assigned homework and stress about homework.…

I personally think that homework should not be mandatory. It should be a choice based off if the students needs it or not.…

There are various effective arguments I would make to support students having homework by their teachers. The first argument I would make is that homework helps students to better retain the lessons they’ve learned during the school day. Students need a lot of exercises to do to retain what they learn everyday in school. Since class time isn’t enough to provide a lot of exercises on one subject, homework is the best way to exercise what’s been learned in class. If no homework is given to students on a subject that’s been discussed in class, it’s more likely for them to forget the subject the next day.…

Homework should not be given unless the teacher knows for a fact that it will help the student’s knowledge of that material expand, which is rarely a known fact, for each student learns differently and there will always be a student that does not benefit from homework assigned. Homework makes learning a chore, and chores are not viewed as fun or inviting. Students deserve a break from learning after being at school for 8 hours a day absorbing facts into their stressed or tired brains. It does not matter how much homework is given, students will most likely forget much of the information learned in that class after the semester is over, so there is no point in making them do it in the first place. Learning should be enjoyable, not a chore or something to stress over.…
