Kids should not be playing violent video games because of links to bad behavior. As many as 97% of US kids age 12-17 play video games, contributing to the $21.53 billion domestic video game industry. More than half of the top 50 selling video games contain violence. US psychologist Christopher Ferguson says an increase of violent films in the latter half of the 20th century coincided with decreased societal violence, while rising popularity of violent video games also came together with less youth violence. A study of participants who played a violent video game for only 35 minutes exhibit less self-control, cheated more, and behaved more aggressively than did participants who played a nonviolent game. The study took data from the ESRB, to analyze fluctuations in the mount of violent games being developed, although violent games gaining popularity, the amount of societal violence among youth dropped. Christopher Ferguson said “violent video games are now an established part of our culture”. Games setting sales records topping blockbuster movies and getting reviews for their artistic merits. Ferguson also said,” like anything else, gaming should be enjoyed in moderation, balanced with outdoor activity and allowing enough time for family and schoolwork.” About 3 % of kids have signs of pathological gaming, the need to play more to achieve desired success. Within hours of the Virginia tech shooting, attorney and anti-game activist jack Thompson showed on fox news to blame shooting on game Counter Strike. Other famous figures such as television host Dr Phil and precedential candidate mitt Romney argued that video games were to blame for the shooting. Critics of violent video games say, that playing violent video games desensitizes players to real life violence and is responsible for the increasing rates of bullying. In 2007 32% of students aged 12-18 reported being bullied at school, compared to 5 % in 1999. Some researchers are concerned that violent video games teach children that violence is an acceptable approach to solving conflicts and achieving goals. The world started to think video games case violence in children.
The world sees evidence of effect of violent video games. 1976 the controversy began, as technology grew the industry started to rise. Phycologists took a look into the effects of it, and did study’s. The law took a step to control the situation. In the end it seems parents need to control what and how much kids decide to use video
