Within Kay S. Hymowitz’s article, she examines that as time has advanced children aren’t “children” and are taking on levels of maturity and issues that are past their caliber. Although Hymowitz’s argument is only one-sided given the fact that children in the 90s and mid-2000s have different circumstances and social “expectations” and “norms”. Through strategic statistical information as well as additional personal sediments and opinions presented by other influential educators, Hymowitz supports her given argument and examples. Despite Hymowitz’s rather bias claim regarding the overall maturity of children between the late 80s-early 90s to early 2000s-mid 2010s, she strategically utilizes rhetorical strategies, information, and statistics…

Some latchkey kids feel that they are not loved because their parents leave them at home alone. Some children do not understand that the parents have to work in order to provide them with the basic necessities. The only thing that the child may think is that the parent would rather work instead of spending quality time with them. According to Brown, Ph.D, & Newnam, B.A, (2005) of the William Gladden Foundation, “communication is the key to helping latchkey kids feel emotionally secure”.…

The general argument made by Newt Gingrich in the article “Let’s End Adolescence” is that we, as a society, need to get rid of the period we refer to adolescence because it is causing us to fall behind other nations and our teenagers to become lazy. According to Gingrich, “once we decide to engage young people in real life, doing real work, earning real money and thereby acquiring real responsibility, we can transform being young in America. And our nation will become more competitive in the process.” Here, Gingrich is basically saying that by putting adult responsibilities on the shoulders of teenagers, we will transform the experience of being ‘young’ in America, and our nation will be more competitive because our young, therefore our adults,…

The article I chose to write a critical review over is titled Don’t Aim Too High for Your Kids: Parental Overaspiration Undermines Students’ Learning in Mathematics written by Murayama, Pekrun, Suzuki, Marsh, and Lichtenfeld. This study was done to find the effects of kids whose parents have aspirations that far exceed the expectations they have for their kid. (which this article defines as being two different things.) For this study, they used a sample of kids and their parents from Germany. An independent sample was also used with a U.S. family, which was a strength of their research as it helped back up their claims because both independent studies had found the same results, being that unreasonably high expectations for a child can have…

Most negativities said about the U.S. aren’t truly meant. Americans get frustrated with the flaws, but really, they love their country. It is a greatly desired place to reside because unlike some countries, children are the focus, the history is uniquely patriotic, and the diversity is the culture. The American society realizes that children are the future. There are laws protecting them from the harsh adult life.…

Trick-or-Treating Persuasive Essay There should not be a law restricting an age limit for trick-or-treating. Halloween is a holiday, anybody should be able to participate and celebrate it. Restricting the age of trick-or-treating will only lead to unacceptable behavior and families not spending quality together. Many people may think young adults, age 16 through 19 should not be allowed to go trick-or-treating.…

At first glance, toddlers and teens appear to be worlds apart. The obvious differences appear to be vast in their ages, sizes, and life experiences. The not-so-obvious similarities between toddlers and teens exist in their curiosity through self-expression, fit throwing, and acting unlovable, when they need love the most. Toddlers and teens are far more alike than one may realize. There is value in understanding the similarities toddlers and teens possess, especially with regards to parental relationships.…

Play is essential for children’s lives; author Hanna Rosin’s article “The Overprotected Kid” demonstrates how parenting styles and fear have inhibited children’s play, harming their development. Places like “The Land” are attempting to make up for the missing element in children’s play by giving them the freedom to explore and make their own decisions, and in turn accept the natural consequences. These missing aspects of play affect children physiologically. One of the culprits could be how parenting styles have changed, therefore the behavior of their children has changed. These changes did not happen randomly; they could base on the accessibility to information these days.…
