What Is The Importance Of Sleep Deprivation Among College Students

What I Already Know. College kids and young adult strive for but ultimately underachieve, what is it? Sleep. Most people know that eight hours is the minimum amount of sleep that a college student must receive to be fully alert and ready to go. What really happens is that a lot of us don’t get all the sleep we strive for and forces the body to go into what scientist call “sleep debt.” An example of sleep debt would be, sleeping for six hours instead of the minimum of eight that is recommended. That leaves two hours of sleep that you missed out on and therefore puts you behind in the recommended amount. Being sleep deprived can lead to a variety of problems such as physical fatigue, mental fatigue, or leaving you in a sassy mood. As a college student, there are several reasons why you may not be getting enough shut eye.
There are many distractions that associate sleep deprivation with students who are attending college. Studying, using a cell phone, and netflix can be huge impacts on how much sleep we as college students do or do not get. All of the things

I started with myself. I picked, pulled, and dug in my brain for all of the information I knew about the importance of sleep. Most shockingly, there wasn’t a lot more that I knew about sleep besides how essential it was, the stages of it, and how we get distracted from it and I was okay with that because that means I could start off building a foundation with at least little knowledge. When researching my topic, I realized that so many people had questions about sleep. What happens while you do it? Does caffeine affect it? What should I do if I can’t sleep? Those are only a few out of the millions asked. This curiosity brought me to searching the web, I had so many questions answered and thanks to an article created by Dr. Frank Lipman called “Common Sleep Questions,” I found out that the same questions that I had about sleep were asked by millions of different
