I will be focusing on the Kidney Cancer, but to understand Kidney Cancer, one needs to know about the systems it resides in. Starting from the Endocrine System, to the Urinary System, then to the Kidneys.
The Endocrine System is made up of glands in an organism that secrete hormones directly into the circulatory system. The hormones that the glands secrete, help to regulate very important internal processes. The processes that they regulate are, growth and development, equilibrium through out the entire body, or homeostasis, the metabolism which is broken down into two categories: Catobolism which is the breakdown of molecules for energy, and Anabolism which is the synthesis of all compounds needed by the cell, reproduction, and response …show more content…
Different factors must be taken into account when deciding on the proper treatment. First, the stage and grade of the the cancer must be known. Second, the chance that the type of treatment will cure the cancer of help in some way, since different stages might not be affected by the same treatment. Third, the age of the patient. Fourth, any other existing health problems the patient might have, this could possible become a complication depending on the treatment. And finally, the patients feelings about the treatment and the side effects that come with it. The most common and well know treatment is surgery, but it depends on the stage of the disease on whether that is the appropriate approach. Next, there is tumor ablation which destroys the tumor without taking it out, this will probably be done if a person is too sick for surgery. Then there is radiation treatments, where high energy rays kill the cancer cells. There are side effects to this treatment which include skin changes where the radiation occurred and fatigue, however most side effects get better after treatment ends. There is then targeted therapy where the patient will take drugs that targets the changes that cause cancer. This treatment may or may not work if other treatments have failed. The side affects differ depending on the drugs used. And finally there is Chemo, this is sort of a last resort for kidney cancer since it doesn 't really work well for this form of cancer. The side effects for this treatment include feeling tired, nauseousness, and hair
