Kickfest Reflection

By the end of September 26th I was exhausted. That was the day I did my semester project for civics class. I volunteered to staff the Kickfest soccer tournament that is held annually at the middle school. My day included field managing, working the concessions and even refereeing games. I volunteered with my friends Lindsay and Julia. We enjoyed the experience and plan on doing it again next year. We thought this was a really good way to help out a program that is on a budget and can't hire staff. I chose to to Kickfest as my project for many reasons. First, I thoroughly enjoy soccer and watching soccer is one of my favorite things to do. Second, I wanted to help out the middle school soccer program because it has helped me grow and become a better soccer player. Last, I …show more content…
First, they benefitted the staff. This mainly included Mrs. Tennant, Mr. Sarosiek, and Mr. Diefenthaler. It helped them because they had more staff and we able to have fair games, and allow things to run smoothly. Second, these services benefitted the teams that participated in the tournament. By having unpaid line referees the championship prize could be bigger and games would be more fair. Last, the main referees benefitted. It helps them out a lot to have a couple extra sets of eyes watching for things that can be difficult to see from their point of view. I chose to do this as my service project to help these people out because many of them have helped me. They have taught me, coached me, and helped shape me to be who I am today. I feel really good about my services. I think it was a fun experience and very beneficial. I learned a lot about refereeing soccer tournaments and how tournaments work. Working with my friends made the experience even more fun. One of my favorite things was see the smiles on people’s face and getting to work with so many other people. I will definitely volunteer for this again next
