The narrative design of this scene in fragmentary is in the sound and shots that are taken. For a while, the microphone on Makhmalbaf is not working properly and the conversation between Makhmalbaf and Sabzian is unheard. In “Kiarostami and the Aesthetics of Ghazal” it says “It is not known if the sound was meant to be turned off,…but in any case it has a distracting effect on the audience, who are left to guess about the conversation between the two men” (Sheibani, 49). When both Makhmalbaf and Sabzian are driving off, there is a long take of a passing vehicle. In the ending of the film, the viewer is shown Sabzian in the frame. This produces ambiguity and invites spectatorship. As it states in “Kiarostami and the Aesthetics of Ghazal,” “…as well as narrative ellipsis and ambiguity, are the techniques Kiarostami uses to achieve an open-ended and interactive end product” (Sheibani, 48). …show more content…
Makhmalbaf, being a famous director and Sabzian, a low-class civilian, are together on a motorcycle. The desire of class mobility Sabzian had to undergo in order to be heard or in some way understood dealt with lies and being untruthful of who he really was. In “Kiarostami and the Aesthetics of Ghazal” it states, ‘…Kiarostami attempts to take the viewer away from the plain reality…to reveal the more complex inner journey of a human being…” (Sheibani, 36). Sabzian had to become someone he was not and by doing that he was invited into a home because of his “director title”. If it was known that he was an average man and not a famous director to the woman sitting on the bus next to him, he would have probably not been invited to visit their

The specific time of the film scene I selected is from 1 hour 46 minutes of the film till the end of the film. This scene can be divided into two specific scenes. The first scene takes place at George’s childhood farmhouse, and there is a man and woman who come in a car and pick up a little boy from the house despite the boy’s will.…

It didn’t matter which we used so long as it worked” (McCloud). The author is again reiterating his appreciation for the usage of images and text in literature. Not only that, but he hints toward people’s root of communication through a generalization. McCloud knows that not until after a person has mastered the fundamentals of communication, learned when young through picture books incorporating minimal text, does that person begin to effectively hone and utilize one medium. It takes usage and familiarity of illustrations and words for a person to feel content with just one form of expression.…

Pablo Picasso's, the Guernica is a large mural sized painting on canvas. It is a dramatic painting depicting the tragedy and suffering that war has on innocent lives. The artwork embodies the stylistic fundamentals of both cubism and surrealism. The scene begins with a view of a tunnel, which is kicked open by a group of shouting men and a man taken out. The individual is the former Libyan President Muammar Gaddafi, who is then shot dead. The scene has a dramatic element to it, with some young men were seen making a dash towards the stage and shouts rent the air, as the former President is portrayed in an open, graphic state. The shot has slowly rising orchestral music in the background, which threatens to be drowned by the gunshots and shouting that is going on, and the cumulative effect is the attainment of a sense of heightening drama and chaos. Artists have used collections to group together different objects to create art pieces. Collections can be diverse and artists can use this technique to create unique pieces that harness their own aesthetics. Both George Herm and Jean Dubuffet are artists who have used this technique. George Herm’s, The Painter’s Mind features an old piece of wood with two L shaped brackets, an orange bottlecap glued to a scrappy piece of paper and a ripped off piece of paper from the book: The Painter’s mind, which inspired the work. George Herm focuses on using overlooked, mundane objects to create collections, collages and sculptures.…

Hi everyone, Large spectacular scene. Most traditional artists would have painted an artwork portraying a picturesque landscape found somewhere extravagant, whereas Goldsworthy works on small local natural places constructing beautiful works with common, natural, found objects. The materials that he uses can also be seen as a reaction against traditional forms and conventions of art. The materials are not traditional such as paint on a canvas. Instead he only uses natural found objects and refuses to leave any permanent mark on the land.…

Finishing the last pages of this chapter, I was surprised at the fact that the chapter was so short. I did not like how Mahfouz does not elaborate more on the experiences of Gebel and the aftermath of his journey. Prior to this chapter, I was expecting the chronicles of his adventure to Gebel, returning to his family, and then writing a book about the land. I am a little perplexed that the author did not include these details. If I were the author, I would continue off his ending and write about Qindil’s adventure home and have him happily meet up with his wife and children.…

In my opinion, these two car elements are just an introduction or a pre experience of what is going to happen afterwards. With the cars he highlights that something is going to happen later with a car while he is on drugs. As he is lying in the puddle without questioning himself how he even got there or why, he already sees the next and last car coming to pick him up. He knew that something is about to happen but unaware of its source. “Still recouping from the drugs, the narrator describes the effects of the pills he had taken and the narrator states he “sensed everything before it happened (Johnson 6).”…

The final scene is interesting to the audience as it creates suspense and conveys to the audience many themes, such as sacrifice, destiny, and love. The use of cross-cutting from Jamal’s point of view to Salim’s and even Latika’s creates anticipation for the audience as to what is going to happen. Boyle is purposefully showing the shots of Latika running towards the phone and Salim layering money in the bath tub to create suspense for the audience as the figure out what will happen, and how each scene pieces into the end game of the movie. A scene that was particularly interesting and true to the theme of redemption was Salim’s death scene.…

The author, Ngugi wa Thiong’o, wrote the short story titled “The Return,” about a protester returning from a detention camp rather than an individual who stayed at the village because it shows the true emotions that men face when they left their families behind. The readers know that Ngugi wa Thiong’o faced great hardships growing up as a member of the Kikuyu people because the “Before You Read” page talks about his life as a child. The short passage says that Thiong’o’s mother was tortured, and his brother was killed in the Mau Mau rebellion. The subject of Kikuyu people in torture camps hits hard for the author because his family was a victim of it.
