Keystone Reflection

I use Keystone AEA all the time with my instruction and extensions within my classroom. It was nice to see Keystone AEA referenced in this class, so others can see the great activities, lessons, materials, and books they have to offer. As a kid, I have always had a love for studying about natural disasters. So, it was a no brainer when I saw the selection that I needed to select that. The BP Oil Spill, The Exxon Valdez Oil Spill, The Hindenburg Disaster, Nuclear Meltdowns, Pandemics, September 11th, Then and Now, and The Titanic Disaster were my books to choose from.
A geographically informed person must understand that physical systems create, maintain, and modify the features that constitute Earth’s surface (Gallagher & Downs, 2012). I would use Glogster to present information to the students. Glogster would have pictures of the disasters that are listed about. I would have links that show the before and after. I would select one of the topics and show them how much damage was caused during the event and in some cases we are still not back to where we were before disaster. I would use TrueFlix to read the book out loud to them and then I would enhance their visual learning by showing them the video.
Students would be asked to select a partner and select a topic. They will need to do a Glogster and analyze the land before the disaster. They will need to research ecosystems, population, pollution, water/ground samples, and the economic disaster. Students must be able to explain the physical effects that took place during that disaster. They will also need to show data and visual evidence on how much the physical environment changed among the human and animal

The value of what I learned is that by comparing and contrasting the similarities and differences between these floods, I am able to learn from past mistakes so that I can avoid these mistakes in the future. For example, in the Santa Clara, Utah Flood of 2005 a neighborhood was built on the cutbank of the river. When the river began to flood the cutbank eroded rapidly causing many of the houses to collapse into the river. I now know that buying a house on the cutbank (or the outside bend of the river) is not the smartest idea because of erosion. I would like to learn more about the Johnstown flood and the formation of the Red Cross and the impacts that it had on American society.…

I could talk with my students about how the civilizations that blossomed after the Agriculture Revolution could be distinguished based on their physical and human characteristics. We would first go over what both physical and human characteristics are and then I would have the students take turns listing the different characteristics of the civilizations that they are learning about. Some of the characteristics to be discussed are plants, animals, architecture, culture, language, religion, jobs, economic activities, and governments. The students could even work together to create a compare and contrast chart about the different…

On the early Saturday morning, October 3, 2015, I took the Blue and Gold Ferry from pier 41 of San Francisco to Angel Island to attend a Nikkei Pilgrimage organized by the Nichi Bei Foundation. Since I grew up and got educated in San Francisco, Angel Island is not a strange place for me. Throughout the years, I have taken many school field trips to Angel Island to learn about the tragic history of the island. I have learned about the “Chinese’s Angel Island experience” so I am familiar with the historical perspective of the Chinese immigration’s struggle while they were detained the island. I was anxious to attend this event because I did not have any knowledge on the Japanese that were detained on the Angel Island.…

Since my first clinical day I have had the opportunity to reflect on my practice as a FNP and what differentiates my medical practice from a psychiatric practice. I set out to explore the differences in practice and I have observed the vagueness that exists between the physical and the mental wellbeing of clients. With that said the more I conduct interviews with clients the more comfortable I am becoming. I am beginning to find my comfort zone and what works for me when conducting the interview. I feel I am becoming less robotic and more engage with clients.…

    Lifted Veil Reflection

Literature in the Victorian Era, that would later be referred to as “Science Fiction”, consists of an array of elements. This reflection will focus on the following four elements; dense physical description, the idea of the lonely scientist, the story’s own materiality, and the form of the frame narrative. With little dialogue, “The Lifted Veil” is heavy with description. When Latimer recalls his entrance into Geneva, his physical description fits with the science fiction formal element, “dense physical description”; “When I was sixteen I was sent to Geneva to complete my course of education; and the change was a very happy one to me, for the first sight of the Alps, with the setting sun on them, as we descended the Jura, seemed to me like…

My reflection upon the capstone project is very scary and rewarding at the same time. At the beginning of class, it seems very scary and intimidating. “A 20-page paper is due on a certain topic and then I have to present it?” That was the question I asked myself. I am not very good with talking in front of my peers and much less writing a 20-page paper when I have not been use to writing that much since high school.…
