Keystone Fellowship Reflection

Decent Essays
Keystone Fellowship Youth Group has been a place where I have made friends with other believers, been influenced by mentors, and strengthened my spirit with other Christians empowering me to rise above challenges at school and in my life. I have spent intensive time with this group of friends at events like summer camp and winter retreat in order to develop friendships with other committed Christians who will keep me accountable in contrast to less spiritually aware personalities at a secular college-prep school. Christian peers and fellowship with believers have provided me with balance, and grounded me with spiritual strength by teaching me how to apply the Word of God in every day challenges.
Now I am able to be a support and strength

Introduction Religious organizations, especially on college campuses, can sometimes be viewed by the public as intimidating due to the rules and stereotypes associated with religious groups. Journey, a Christian worshiping community at the College of Charleston, encourages an open-minded approach to spiritual growth throughout college by communicating with students in a way that welcomes all types of students without judgment. This organization is a discourse community, a group of people that share common goals and communicate about a particular topic, at the College of Charleston. To determine this, I compared Journey to the discourse community discussed by John Swales in his academic article. In his piece, Swales explains that to be a true…

Cornerstone Ministries is a church in Export, PA. It has over 4,000 attendees spanned over 3 weekend services and a Wednesday night service. They’ve decided to take church to a completely new level with many unique features that may just be found only at this church. One of these features is something called small groups. Small groups span from kindergarten to 12th grade, and are separated by gender (there are also small groups for adults and they are not separated by genders).…

My religious community has played a profound role on my development as an adult, the three guiding principals of Zoroastrianism: "Good Thoughts, Good Deeds, and Good Words" guide my actions daily. Being part of such a small community while heightening my sense of being has also made me more appreciative and understanding of other cultures & groups. For me understanding others has become a key component in understanding myself. My community has also enabled me to be a better communicator- as often times questions are asked regarding my ethnicity and religion where I can act as a spokesperson for the…

    Support Group Observation

In attempt to develop range in my observation of support groups, I once again found myself returning to an old stomping ground. Throughout my years in high school, I dedicated several hours a week to my local church in a growth group for high school girls. Although I currently experience mixed emotions with religion, I recalled how influential it was during my teenaged years to have such support, convincing me to return to observe a group to identify ways in why it was so helpful for me during difficult moments in my life. Luckily, my previous growth group leader was still leading groups and graciously accepted my request to be a guest that following week. Meeting once a week, the purpose of these groups was to discuss the Bible and life issues, but based on personal experience, these groups offered much more than a few life lectures.…

Roughly 85 residents spend their nights at the Community Crossroads Center in a homeless shelter located in Greenville, North Carolina. My initial reaction toward the facility was overall positive, and leaves me optimistic about the field of social work. I firmly concur with the safety precautions, and requirements of both the staff and homeless individuals. The division between male, and female dwellers alongside having a family section creates a secure environment for all participants. My preconceptions of funding regarding homeless shelters being well provided for by the government in conjunction with donations was a complete falsehood.…

Youth and young adults are slowly drifting away from the church and becoming less aware of Jesus. Faith Community Church is focused on building a ministry that will offer something unique that can relate to this culture that creates a fun and exciting environment to learn about Jesus. 12Eleven was created as a way for students to gather twice a week in order to connect with others in a time of fellowship and worship that ultimately leads to building a deeper understanding of God. This generation is living in a culture that is quite confused and 12Eleven was created with the intention to create a community where the youth can come and discover truth in a confused…

In order to be a devout believer, I must become infatuated with the Gospel and pursue Jesus fervently. I must physically display Christ’s love to my patients, my instructors, and my classmates. As a team member of Student Center Activities Board (SCAB) that works for Student Life Programs here at Cedarville, I will strive to physically display Christ’s love and grace to both unbelievers and believers through my conversations with them. I need to become more like Christ and be sensitive to Christ trying to mold me in order to grow in this…

My main goal is to shape young people into disciples filled with Bible knowledge and to help send them out in the world to witness to the unsaved. I plan to do this by combining the discipleship model and the ministry model talked about by Richard R. Dunn in his book, “Reaching A Generation For Christ”. He states that the philosophy of the discipleship model as, “The discipleship model trains students to be God’s people in an ungodly world, equipped with Bible study and prayer skills developed in a caring atmosphere with a view to reproducing their Christian lives in other” (175). This philosophy would be fulfilled by small groups or “trainings” held on a weekly basis. I would like to keep a very close, relational youth group.…

My best friend encouraged me to join her teen bible study that she has been attending for two years. At first I was reluctant because I thought it would be a waste of my Friday nights. Finally on September 11, 2015 I went with her to the first meeting of this year, and enjoyed it. At the meeting we discussed our first week of school and also the events that occurred on 9/11. After this meeting, I started attending every meeting afterwards and go deep into scripture.…

Relationships that we have with people can greatly influence who we are, the decisions that we make as leaders, and the vi-sions that we have for the church body. By nurturing relationships with individuals and teams I can display my passion for God through conversations, my work, and my service to others. I can use my ability of connectedness to help people discover their identity in Christ, and break through the silos of people-groups or church departments. In ministry the ability to adapt is essential.…

Calvary Commission, the seminary that I stayed at, is located a few miles out of town on a land that seems to never end. I could walk miles and still find myself to be on Calvary Commission’s property. The first day I was there, my group and I went on a little hike up to the prayer chapel, which sat on the top of a hill, surrounded by trees, and a bonfire pit stood a few feet away. This was my group’s first real exposure to how great the people at Calvary Commission are.…
