Keyshawn Substance Abuse Case Study

Keyshawn is currently attending Churchland High School full time as an 11th grader. Keyshawn is currently taking regular education classes and does not have any educational disabilities. Keyshawn's performance at school is poor, and he is failing his classes. Keyshawn's general attitude toward education is positive; he believes there is a definite benefit to his education and believes the school environment is encouraging and supportive. In the last three months, Keyshawn has attended school regularly and there have been no behavioral interventions. His academic placement seems appropriate and he has historically obtained satisfactory grades. Keyshawn has never participated in treatment for alcohol or other drug use. Keyshawn denied having an issue with drugs and alcohol. He reported first using marijuana at the age of 16. Keyshawn denied being under the influence of any substances on the day of the offense. Keyshawn reported he does not need substance abuse treatment and is not receptive to attending. Keyshawn has never been evaluated for substance abuse treatment.

There are no current or past indications of mental health problems in Keyshawn's case. Keyshawn has shown no indications of homicidal ideation and no indications of suicidal thoughts. Ms. Johnson reported Keyshawn has never had a psychological evaluation and does not have a mental health diagnoses. She also reported Keyshawn is not taking any medication.

Both Keyshawn and his mother deny any incident of physical or sexual abuse. Keyshawn reported he is currently being bullied at school by children related to the victim of the offense before the court. Keyshawn also reported being bullied in middle school.
