The key recommendations stated in the gold standard are to promote good mental health in older people, early detection and diagnosis of depression, promotion of integrated care by health professionals and supporting carers and establishment of specialist mental health teams for older people (Department of Health, 2001).
The author thinks that the framework is idealistic, but unachievable in the health and social care system, because up to the present day there are no specialist mental health teams specifically for older people, they are mental health teams that cover a multitude of health specialities giving a once size fits all approach .( Burns & Warner 2015)

The key recommendations stated in this are to promote good mental health in older people by the promoting of early detection and diagnosis of depression and promotion of integrated care by health professionals, supporting carers and establishment of specialist mental health teams for older people (Department of Health, 2001).

Developing effective services for older people 2003 follows on from the 2001 national service framework guidance 2001. It was noted that the framework did not focus on older people’s mental health; however it did recommended older peoples services and improvement for the future.
