Early childhood educators and professionals carry out many functions to meet the objectives toward their mission and for meeting the goals of helping children and their families can be accomplished. In doing so, they often are faced with ethical dilemmas. Codes of ethics, therefore, helps to set the standards of practice expected of professional people, and in consequence they are sometimes known as Codes of Practice. Professionalizing early childhood requires that teachers be critical practitioners and ethical professionals; thus, “taking control of the professionalization agenda therefore requires practitioners to demonstrate a critical understanding of their practice'' (Taggart, 2011, p. 85).…

To what extent does the electoral district of Albert Park require additional government primary schools to be developed? Albert Park is an electoral district of the Victorian Legislative Assembly, Australia. It covers the inner-city suburbs of South Melbourne, Albert Park, Middle Park, Port Melbourne and St Kilda, (ABC.net.au, 2010). The volume of enrolments to attend government primary schools within the electorate increased significantly over the 5 year period between 2006 and 2011, with this number expected to rise substantially in the following 10 years between 2011 and 2021, (See Appendix 1.1). Due to the already constrained capacity at local primary schools within the electorate, the high level of population growth expected across the…

Quality Area 6 is an area of the National Quality Framework (2017) that articulates the importance of collaborative partnerships with families and the community, with the Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority (2017) arguing that these partnerships are essential for excellent outcomes for children, and the surrounding community. Perspectives, strategies and recommendations have been explored to implement into the center to improve their practice of Quality Area 6. Personal Philosophy I believe that all children are unique and bring their own knowledge and experiences to any educational environment. I believe the early childhood environment is a place for children to be free agents to; develop, learn, grow and express themselves, while having the confidence and respect they as a person are entitled to. Furthermore I also belie that all children have the right to learn and their learning be abundant with experiences, knowledge and quality, as well as feeling a sense of belonging to their community and learning environment. These beliefs are important to my teaching and my philosophy of early childhood eduction.…

After the introduction of the Productive Pedagogies model in Queensland, the New South Wales (NSW) Department of Education and Training commissioned two of its developers to use this as a basis for creating a coherent model of pedagogy which could be used on a school-wide basis in NSW. Associate Professor James Ladwig and Professor Jennifer Gore devised the Quality Teaching Model (QTM), which can be applied across all key learning areas, from Kindergarten through to Grade 12 (Killen, 2016). The model groups quality teaching practices into three dimensions; Intellectual Quality, Quality Learning Environment and Significance. Although these dimensions are separated for clarity, Faull (2009) considers that the three dimensions are effectively…

Changes in Childcare, Language and Literacy Development Early childhood literacy is becoming a big focus in a child’s development these days and for good reason. Much research and study has been done on how a child learns and many theorists believe that a child’s literacy development actually begins at birth, not just when they start school. This discovery has helped to make many changes in the early childhood care sector, including the beginning of The Early Years Learning Framework. Focus is now on providing quality education along with quality care in our childcare centres. Childcare Staff are now trained as Early Childhood Educators and it is their job to provide the children in their care with quality learning experiences from birth…

The Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) is based on principles, practice and learning outcomes with a strong focus on the learning environment and surroundings which are implemented according to the educator’s understanding of the curriculum and their own philosophy (reinforced by beliefs and values) (Blaise & Nuttall, 2011, pp.103-105; Robson, 2004, p. 205; Strong-Wilson & Ellis, 2007, pp. 40-43. Beliefs and values held by the educator can be intentionally or unintentionally displayed in the learning environment by way of materials, furniture placement and play. These beliefs have an impact on the way students learn within the classroom or nursery environment. Each space is organised addressing curricula requirements and the educators own…

Every parent wants the best for their child especially in terms of their learning and it is the teacher’s job to accomplish this and provide this to children. That is what an early childhood day care in Australia wants to achieve and practise. The kinder, Wesley Vale Primary school comes to an attention of lacking in having an interaction with the children individually. The article mentions how the kinder comes to a solution to develop a program of what they call, ‘Project-based learning’. They built this idea from looking back to Reggio Emilia and Kathy Walker’s approach to early childhood learning.…

I agree with Moss (2010), who states “the educator needs to appreciate the range of disciplines, theories and practices available, and to understand her or his responsibility to decide where to situate herself or himself in this complex and diverse range of possibilities” (Moss, 2010, p. 15). Within education there are diverse disciplines, theories and practices, and like Moss, I believe its imperative for educators to have knowledge and an understanding of these before they are able to make informed decisions on where they position themselves within early childhood teaching, learning and development. This assignment intends to demonstrate the position I have taken, and include a critical analysis of the current early childhood curriculum and…
