Discuss some of the key ideas of the Renaissance. The Renaissance marked an influx of Greek culture and ideals throughout the western world. Many social shifts occurred during the period before the Renaissance. The most notable ones, being the fall of Constantinople, the black death and the Great Western Schism. The defeat at Constantinople pushed many Greeks westward in search of a safe haven bringing Greek thoughts with them. In the pursuit of reviving Greek ideas, people of the Renaissance searched far and wide for ancient manuscripts. Individualism started progressing during this period. We note this because of the emphasis on the self in many literary works. Portraiture and art signings started becoming frequent and common practices.
