One example of my ability to improve the community is my involvement in Key Club at West Henderson High School. As Vice-President, I took the initiative to coordinate the club’s volunteer opportunities and recruit members to attend each event. I implement organizational skills to create the monthly schedule, managing more than twenty volunteer activities throughout the year. My leadership role in Key Club has allowed me to be more involved in the community and meet other volunteers in Western North Carolina.

Open and willing to listen to others and show a genuine care and concern is a rare find in high school today. It was enlightening to learn of Robert’s trip to Haiti where he has gained a broader outlook on the world and life. Robert also has an appreciation for all he possesses and determination to someday make a difference in the world. It is because of experiences such as the trip to Haiti and membership in Common Ground that have inspired Robert to go beyond the required. I admire not only the myriad of activities he is involved, but more the consistency and leadership positions he maintains.…

As I walked through this filthy lot, I realized how different this area of Rockford, Illinois was from my home town. With the help of over 200 workers, including myself, we were able to change the face of many people's lawns and hopefully inspire the house owners to change their habits forever. The club I am involved with at school that allowed me to participate in project 10-13, the annual cleaning of an area of Rockford, is Servant Leadership.…

I will describe my personal history of community services by first introducing my services in middle school, and then diverging when I reach high school years. Most of my services began as aiding friends in their community services or as forms of tutoring, but more recently, I began to organize and hold various events, as well as volunteer at shelters and hospitals. In middle school (specifically 8th grade from around December to June), I tutored two classmates in math (Algebra I) for a few hours per month at their houses. They have both moved away from the Fredericksburg area.…

Plans and actions are needed in order to get a group of people to come together towards a particular issue in today’s society. As a result, the community can be involved if persuaded with the idea of a great plan. Subsequently, I will argue that my personal action is the most effective way of presenting it to the community. Consequently, not everything can go as planned so a good second option can be used as a safety blanket that will be explained later on in this paper. I, like many other students, had come from a school where I was able to participate and lead several organizations across campus and experienced a bit of a culture shock at Deerfield as I felt that I couldn’t contribute much to the community. Throughout the ski season, I discovered that while I am not, nor will ever be, the strongest skier on the team, my role as someone who cheers people on, keeps smiling on days with bad conditions, and organizes special team dinners is just as impactful as being the MVP. I know that the “small fish in big pond” feeling is something that many students experience as they transition to Deerfield, and I know that my experience of learning how to contribute my skills to help the community will assist me in guiding others through difficult…
