Although I carried doubt and fear of running for such a respected role, I knew that to overcome my timidness, I had to take a stand and prove to myself that I could do what I never thought I could do. With motivation from club members and the club advisor, I ran for the position and took office as secretary of the Tempe High Key Club. In becoming an integral officer to the club, I acquired many speaking roles by supporting the club meetings and taking notes of other members ideas throughout the remainder of my freshman year. I attended my first Key Club District Convention in Albuquerque where I made numerous connections with students from other states and further enhanced my ability to present myself. In addition to meeting students at the convention, I met the International Trustee who had an extremely social and extroverted personality. She further inspired me to reach for higher leadership roles to break my introvert personality. I was slowly letting go entirely of my introverted personality and finding a voice I never knew I had.
The first semester of my freshman year began my transformation from a quiet, shy person to an open-minded, social student. The realization that I would not become a strong leader if my shyness persisted, pushed me to open up and do what I never believed I could do - break my introverted shell. In doing so, I was able to further expand my leadership skills
