Have you ever skipped a meal during the day and started to feel sluggish but then felt down afterwards? With an eating disorder, people skip meals all the time and feel normal about it because they have a mental problem. They believe that it is perfectly normal to do so. “We turn skeletons into goddesses and look to them as if they might teach us how not to need” is a common quote by Hornbacher, who is a professional in the study of eating disorders and how they affect people. People with eating disorders glorify skinnies, believing they are treating their body in a healthy way and like the way they look. Anorexia nervosa is a serious eating disorder in teens. In order to understand this disease one must understand anorexia nervosa, one must examine the many causes, signs, and treatment of the disorder.

However, with the proper treatment and time, one can be cured from any eating disorder that they are facing. People need to know that teens, both male and female, that are facing these disorders do not need to be looked down upon, but lifted up and helped with whatever they are going through. Ask yourself these questions to figure out if you or a friend one may know are suffering from an eating disorder: do you feel fat even though people tell you are not? Are you terrified of gaining weight? Do you diet, compulsively exercise, or purge when you are feeling overwhelmed or in a bad state of mind? Do you feel powerful or in control when you go without food? If you say yes to one, or even all of these questions, you may be suffering from anorexic nervosa and need to seek help. Help is out there and if you or someone you know needs it, people are willing to support you through your difficult
