Coach Kevin Kanipe Analysis

Great Essays
Coach of the Century
Tom Landry once said, “A coach is someone who tells you what you don’t want to hear, and has you see what you don’t want to be, so you can be who you have always known what you can be.” Kevin Kanipe, “Coach Kevin”, is the most relevant man when you see that quote because he assists oh helping young athletic softball players, uses his spare time to coach, and helps getting these softball athletes getting recruited. When I first got introduced to Mr. Kanipe I was in ninth grade. I did not know of him but it made me wish I did a lot sooner. My former high school coach mentioned me to him so he can see what I was capable of. When he first saw me I was not even aware of what was happening but once my former coach explained

Kanipe is probably one of the few people that has made a great first impression, he showed he is dedicated to what he was doing, he enjoys what he does, and he love he has for the game. As I was watching the way he coached he seemed like he knew what he was doing and what he was coaching. With previous experience I had coaches who would just make a statement but had no reason behind it. Unlike Mr. Kanipe he explains, what the correct form is, the reason why it is the correct form, and shows his players how to do it whether it was by a video or individual person to person talk. That is what brought interest to me and what difference of a coach he was compared to all my previous coaches in the past years I have been playing. He also tells us and makes us live by this saying until we play college ball, “what are you going to do that will show the coaches you are different from all the other girls?” That made me really open my eyes about how to get recruited because that is what the whole thing is about. It is about to show these college coaches how much heart, effort, and knowledge you have for the …show more content…
In order for that he puts his time and effort to make that happen with many ways. “Over the years I’ve built up a network of college coaches that I know and they know who heat is. I have several coaches I can email and tell them you need to take a look at this player, and they will be there.” Coach Kevin explained. He also has HEAT scrimmage against college teams in order to make the coaches really see how these young athletes play while in game situation. When he believes a girl has the potential to play for a certain college he suggests it to them and does anything he can do to get the coaches to realize the kind of player the girl is. He gives out confidence in these girls from all over the valley and gives them the confidence in themselves. Softball is the game of mental toughness and mental toughness is the number one thing that can make the difference in succeeding or failing. Coach Kevin gets you there even if you think you are not. He helps mentally and physically because he has been down that road before, “I pretty much grew up playing sports. Baseball, football, basketball, and golf. My dad was my influence. He coached my baseball teams from when I was eight until he passed away when I was 14. He was very competitive and that’s a trait I got from him. I started out playing football, basketball, baseball, and track my freshman year. By the time I

According to Merriam-Webster, a coach is defined as, “a person who teaches and trains the members of a sports team and makes decisions about how the team plays during games.” A coach is much more than what Merriam-Webster defines it as.
