Baker Mayfield, out of the University of Oklahoma, is the most controversial quarterback in this year’s rookie class. The first overall draft pick, 2017 Heisman Trophy winner, and newest member of the Cleveland Browns, is the subject of many skeptical views. It is true that Mayfield showed signs of inappropriate behavior, such as suggesting that an opposing team, the Kansas Jayhawks, “Suck [his] d***,” and then proceeding to grad the area in question. He served a one game suspension for these actions on the sideline. While his ambition is no doubt an issue, his talent is by no means tarnished by this.…

With the Detroit Lions' playoff hopes in the rear-view mirror, there is little motivation to continue watching their free fall into NFL irrelevancy. We may not often win, but it's the small victories from solid individual performances that keep our attention. Ameer Abdullah was one of the few players inspiring hope for the future after the first four weeks of the season, but with the good comes the bad. One of the most disheartening aspect of the blowout loss to the Arizona Cardinals was our rookie running back’s habitual inability to hold on to the football. Lost in the pandemonium after Sunday’s debacle, most seemed to overlook Ameer’s defects and placed their dissatisfaction elsewhere.…

The totalitarian government in the novel 1984 doesn’t mention the use of technology other than for military and surveillance in the novel. The government has no need for high end technology such as phones and the internet. The use of phones and the internet would be detrimental to keeping INGSOC in power. If the people in the novel had access to such technology, they would be able to talk to one another and possibly plan the downfall of the government. If INGSOC had allowed for the internet and phones to exist, there is the possibility that the people would revolt or that citizens of the three superstates would be able to see what INGSOC was actually doing.…

This man contrasts with the whole of the Party, as he understands that Party deceives the people and makes them believe that everything told to them equals truth. George Orwell often utilizes a main character, who differs from all others, to highlight values of the society within which the character lives in his other novels. In Oceania he was considered to have a “normal” life because he had good job and “friends”. But even with all this he was not satisfied with what he had he felt like he was being watched and controlled with everything he did.
