* John Crawfurd memetik catatan De Burros dalam bukunya, A Descriptive Dictionary of the Indian Islands and Adjacent Countries, bahawa ketika Portugis menawan Melaka dahulu, mereka berjaya merampas antara 3000 hingga 8000 senjata api daripada Melaka, dan De Burros sendiri mengatakan bahawa Portugis sendiri tidak mampu untuk menghasilkan senjata api sebanyak itu. Bahkan meriam yang dirampas dari kerajaan Melaka lebih besar dahn berkualiti dari mreka. * Melaka tidaklah berperang dengan hanya menggunakan keris dan tombak semata mata. Sebaliknya telah menggunakan meriam, istiggar dan senjata api yang lain. Dikatakan pusat perkilangan senjata api ini di kawasan Terengganu. Malah kerajaan Turki Uthmaniah juga ada menggunakan senjata api buatan Melaka. * Melaka juga melaksanakan strategi menggertak dan tindakan perang psikologi untuk menakutkan pihak lawan dengan mengeluarkan sejumlah perahu perang, lancara, tongkang, sampan dan sebagainya yang lengkap bersenjata untuk menunjukkan kekuatannya kepada Portugis. Sikap pembesar seperti Tun Mutahir yang sombong dan sentiasa berlagak memang tidak menghiraukan kerabat diraja, menjadi salah punca perpecahan di istana. Fitnah yang menimpa Tun Mutahir dan keluarganya mengakibatkan terhapusnya suatu keluarga yang terkuat dan berpengaruh di Melaka. * PEMECATAN PEMBESAR YANG CEKAP Akibat pembunuhan Bendahara Tun Mutahir, Penghulu Bendahari Tun Tahir dan Temenggung Tun Hasan, Melaka kehilangan pembesar-pembesar yang cekap dan berpengalaman malah turut terjejas ialah jawatan Laksamana. Jawatan tersebut yang dipegang oleh Laksamana Khawaja Hasan telah dilucutkan kerana menyampaikan fitnah tanpa usul periksa. Ini menyebabkan tiada angkatan laut yang mempertahankan Melaka. * SEMANGAT JIHAD YANG LEMAH Walaupun agama Islam berpusat dan tersebar di Melaka, namun pegangan agama itu dikalangan pembesar dan penduduknya amat tipis. Mereka kerap mempersendakan kehadiran ulama-ulama asing. Semangat berjihad mempertahankan bumi bertuah itu dan demi agama Islam tidak tertanam kukuh disanubari
