Kerward's Effect On High School

Improved Essays
Because Kearney was constantly changing schools throughout his childhood, he was never able to form strong relationships with his peers. He had very few friends and had trouble fitting in. Considerably thin and frail, Kearney was often teased and even bullied. Everywhere he went bullies targeted him, and this had a significant psychological impact. In high school, the effects started to appear in that he fantasized about killing people and became even more aloof from his classmates (Cook et al., n.d.). All this manifested itself in his choice of victims. Kearney chose many of his victims based on their resemblance to his childhood bullies

In the article “The Little High School That Could: Teacher Urges Latinos into College-- and is Not Rehired.” Beverly Beyette discusses the controversy ; that surrounded George Shirley at Alisal High in Salinas, California. Shirley was an English and History teacher at Alisal High in 1986, and he is well remembered as the teacher who pushed Latino students into some of the most prestigious universities in the country including some Ivy League universities. This story swept the whole country by storm because Shirley did the unthinkable and got 72 of 84 students into great schools but was later terminated from his position at Alisal High and was not rehired, and this caused many problems because some believed Shirley was an unfit teacher for writing some of his student’s college essays others will argue and say he was a great teacher. I agree with those ; hence, who think Shirley was a great teacher because he actually did something for his student…

While Harris was talkative and violent, Klebold was shy and kept to himself. They both shared a common hatred the school and its “jock” clique and anyone else believed to have mistreated them. This bond was one that would prove deadly. They enjoyed playing violent video games, and liked to think about putting their schoolmates in the violent games. By the second year at Columbine High School, Harris had become visibly different.…

In freshman year I moved out of the school district with my mother, my brother, and my mother's boyfriend while my father moved into my old house. I was now left with two options: I could either continue to enroll in school at Massabesic High School or I could transfer to Kennebunk High School. See, my mother was just going to drive me to my existing bus stop every morning if I stayed at Massabesic but changing schools was starting to peak my interest. I started doing some research on both schools, making a compare and contrast chart while my knowledge grew. I looked at academics, statistics, student-to-teacher ratio and the whole nine-yards.…

The Conflict Theory’s focus point is class, gender, race/ethnicity, age, and inequality. At Manassas High School the minority enrollment is 100% of the student body, while the average for the state of Tennessee is 35%. After their first win against a 3A/4A school the cops did not allow them to shake hands, they told their team to get on the bus and go home. It is ironic how a majority white team use to pay a majority black team $3,000 to get their butts kicked, but when the majority black team wins the majority white team does not want to shake hands. Manassas was at the bottom of their class, “there is a lot of folks out east of here that don’t think we belong”, said by Courtney.…

The Oklahoma City bombing appeared to be their source of inspiration with them journaling that they wanted to do something that not only rivaled but outlived this horrific incident as they planned their gory presentation for its anniversary (Haider-Market & Joslyn, 2001). Klebold even took the time to boast on video about exacting "the most deaths in U.S. history" (Larkin, 2007). Columbine was envisioned not chiefly as a shooting, but as a bombing on a substantial level. After the bombs were to have gone off, they prearranged to gun down escaping survivors. With the wiring being faulty and incorrect for the most part, the bombs did not go off as intended.…

The narrator describes how one of the boys in the platoon named Rat Kiley was changed by the war. O’Brien writes, “He's nineteen years old— it's too much for him—so he looks at you with those big sad gentle killer eyes and says cooze, because his friend is dead” (O’Brien 66). This description of Rat Kiley is a bit shocking as it draws a sharp contrast between his youth, a trait often equated with innocence, and his harsh words that reflect a much rougher character than might be expected of a nineteen-year-old boy. He is painted as a character just verging on the edge of innocence. He has “big said gentle killer eyes.”…
